Social Enterprise Placements
IDEXs core program component is the 10-month field placement with a social enterprise. Social Enterprise placements provide fellows with hands-on field experience by working intimately with enterprises in IDEXs partner network across India. Fellows are expected to collaborate with social entrepreneurs and their staff to identify core business issues and opportunities, and develop a plan of action to develop sustainable interventions and solutions. Fellows will gain a better to understanding around the following areas:
- Market Knowledge & Insights
- Strategy & Operations
- Business Development
- Innovation & Sustainability
- Impact Assessment & Analysis
Fellows are strategically matched with social enterprises to match skills, experience and expertise of the fellow with the need, business model and operational goals of the enterprise. Fellows report directly to the management of the social enterprise they are placed with and provide strategic support in developing sustainable solutions to build and scale the enterprise. Fellow’s job descriptions are developed by the fellow and the placement organization upon the start of the fellowship term. IDEX requires fellows complete core deliverables that must be submitted to IDEX field managers in addition to their work with enterprises. For a list of these program deliverables, click here.

IDEX is currently in the process of seeking out new partners with enterprises to expand program verticals including Agriculture, Water, Sanitation, Technology, Energy, Health and Housing. We will announce these opportunities as they become available.
FIELD PLACEMENT LOCATIONS
- Hyderabad, India
The pilot of the IDEX Fellowship began in Hyderabad, India, the capital city of Andhra Pradesh, and a hub for social innovation. It is a city where entrepreneurship is ripe, and the stable economy and political scene make it a well-known global hotspot for innovation. India, as a leader in international commerce and with strong ties to the United States, offers the fellows a unique opportunity for cross-cultural exchange.
Currently fellows work in Hyderabad Old City, a predominantly Muslim area of town containing its own cultural identity as well as unique set of socio-economic issues.

Future fellow cohorts (beginning the summer of 2012) will continue to work exclusively in India and IDEX will seek to expand fellow placements to Mumbai, Delhi and/or Bangalore.
